Yuna's voice sounds robotic. How do I make it sound natural?
iPhone ships with a basic Korean voice by default. For a much warmer voice, go to Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Korean and download Yuna (Premium). The app will pick it up automatically. For Japanese, French, Spanish and English, look for the Premium or Enhanced tagged voice in that menu.
The microphone isn't working.
Open Settings → Day Mate and make sure Microphone permission is on. If you tap the mic and nothing happens, force-quit the app and reopen.
How do I change the companion (e.g. switch to John, Mary, Carmen, etc.)?
Day Mate picks a companion automatically based on your iPhone's language. To change just the grandma/grandpa, open Settings inside the app → My Friend and tap your preference. You can also rename them and write notes that the companion will remember.
The speech recognition keeps mistaking what I said.
Speak in a quiet room, hold the phone within arm's length, and pause briefly before tapping the stop button. The app uses OpenAI's Whisper model, which works best with full sentences rather than single words.
Subscription & Billing
How much does Day Mate cost?
Day Mate is free for up to 10 conversations per day. Past that, you can subscribe (monthly or yearly) for unlimited conversations. The exact prices in your currency appear inside the app when you tap Continue Subscribing.
How do I cancel my subscription?
On your iPhone: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Day Mate → Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
How do I get a refund?
All purchases go through Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com and select Day Mate. Apple's policy applies.
Can a family member pay for me?
Yes. Day Mate supports iCloud Family Sharing. If an adult child or grandchild subscribes from their iPhone and you are part of their family group, you can use the subscription on your own device at no extra cost.
Privacy & Data
Is my voice recorded?
Your voice is sent to OpenAI to be transcribed into text. The audio is discarded immediately after transcription and never stored on our servers. Only the text and a short daily summary are kept. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I delete my data?
Open Settings inside the app → Delete My Information. This permanently removes your profile, all memories of past conversations, and all server-side data. There are two confirmation steps so you don't delete by accident.
Is Day Mate suitable for children?
Day Mate is rated 4+ but is designed for older adults. It is not a medical, legal, or financial advice service. For emergencies, call your local emergency number (119 in Korea, 911 in the U.S., 112 in Europe, 119 in Japan).
Account
There's no sign-up. Where is my account?
Day Mate is account-free. We identify each install by a randomly generated UUID, never by your name, email or phone. This means if you uninstall and reinstall, your past conversations and subscription will not transfer automatically — please use the App Store's Restore Purchases button after reinstalling.
